Sometimes simple is good. The smell of home cooked scones, snuggling under your favorite doona watching an old movie, or without the doona maybe if you are in northern Australia, but you know what we mean.
2020 is already too complicated, thus we are taking a simple approach to grants and funding.

$250m support package for Australia’s arts and cultural sectors.
We know councils have spaces, theatres, cultural centres and support arts communities so this announcement is very relevant. On Thursday, the Australian Government announced: A $250m support package for Australia’s arts and cultural sectors, including $90m in government-backed concessional loans to fund new productions that will create jobs during the economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic was announced today. Thursday’s package includes a $75m grant program that will provide capital to help Australian production and events businesses put on new festivals, concerts, tours and other events as social distancing restrictions ease. Grants will range from $75,000 to $2m. The new words never ceases to amaze us. If you thought shovel ready was ground-breaking then think again. From The Canberra Times:
Coronavirus recovery: ACT commits $10 million to speed up local infrastructure projects JUNE 11 2020 - 4:30AM The government initially committed $25 million to fast-track the delivery of small, so-called "screwdriver-ready" infrastructure projects across all parts of Canberra. https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/6788548/millions-promised-to-speed-up-local-infrastructure-projects/#gsc.tab=0 I’ve had multiple conversations this week with council staff who are feeling overwhelmed. Many conflicting issues: the transition back into the workplace, kids going back to school, the demands of the community in recovery, coming up to the end of the financial year, the continuous announcements on funding and the relentless media.
This question came from a council we assisted in the drought round of BBRF4. The question arose from concern that nearby councils had been rung by the Department to say that they had been unsuccessful, and yet the council that called me hadn’t heard anything. I advised that this may, or may not be, a good thing.
On 22nd May the Australian Government announced a $1.8 Billion package. This week’s blog is all about the Australian Government as we analyse what this means for you.
