All about Grants Workshop
Governments, both Australian and in most States have changed the grants space in ways we have not seen in many years. Environment, water, arts, climate change and community grants are appearing. The process has changed too with the Integrity Commission at the Commonwealth Level and States which strengthen transparency, accountability and fairness
in the administration of government grants.

Based on these changes we have updated our workshop for 2026 is:

Session 1
Where is the grant money in 2026? Section51 has insight on where and why the big grants are missing at the end of 2025 and what may happen in 2026. There is a lot going on with money flow between Australian Government and Local Government and the first session will explore how these changes impact where the money is and how to access it for
your projects in 2026.

Session 2
How to get the money? When the grant money in 2026 does become available how do you get it? Very differently to the past and we explain why and how this affects how you prepare your applications. We will use round 1 and 2 successful Growing Regions project applications as real case studies.

Session 3
Evidence and attachments. Competition is so fierce for limited money you must get the evidence and attachments right. There is virtually no leeway anymore, either get them right or you risk being ineligible. We show you how and why.

Session 4
Reporting, ChatGPT and other stuff. Like evidence, reporting has become intense. Both the AG and State have no qualms about shutting your project down and demanding money back if you don’t get it right. Section51 has had very recent experience with this, and we wouldn’t wish it on any council. We show how to get this right too.

Presenter
The workshop is presented by Colin Steele, Section51. Colin worked for 10 years in each level of government as a planner, policy development, place manager and grants design and administration.  In the Australian Government Colin ran the Tasmanian Natural Heritage Trust grant Program, local government climate adaptation grants and worked for Minister Albanese as the Director of the Local Government Policy Team in the Department of Infrastructure.  In this role Colin designed and managed multiple grant programs including the predecessor to what are now Growing Regions and Regional Partnership Grant Programs.  Colin has been successfully running Section51 for 14 years.
