There is a strong rumour going around that BBRF6 may open on Thursday December 16, 2021.
Why December 16? Because that is the day that many politicians are back in Canberra for the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO) updates. As well as updating the economic and fiscal outlook, the MYEFO provides the opportunity to set out funding opportunities in the lead up to the election in 2022. Opening of BBRF6 is still dependent on the election date. The election must be held on or before May 22 but the specific day is only known by the Prime Minister. Media speculation is March or April for the election which gives time for opening of BBRF6 in December with an end of January closing.

A topic of conversation around Canberra this week has been timing of the announcement of successful projects under Building Better Regions Fund Round 5. With parliament sitting, the Section51 team had the chance to talk a few people. Speculation from multiple sources is that announcement will follow one of the next two sittings. Thus, the week beginning 28th June or the week beginning 16th August. The reason is that the final decision will be made during sitting weeks, while Cabinet is in Canberra. The announcement will then wait until local members are back out in their electorates, in the weeks after, to gain the benefit.
Since the announcement of a new round of Building Better Regions Fund in the Australian Government Budget on Tuesday 6th October, the Section51 team has been asked if we can run workshops to help councils prepare. We are responding to this request and this blog is about the series of webinar workshops specifically on preparing applications for Building Better Regions Fund Round 5.
It’s been very quiet in the grants space and thus a while since our last blog. But spring is in the air and there is a lot happening in Canberra and elsewhere with budgets and grant programs opening over the next few weeks so ‘it’s time’.
Sometimes simple is good. The smell of home cooked scones, snuggling under your favorite doona watching an old movie, or without the doona maybe if you are in northern Australia, but you know what we mean.
2020 is already too complicated, thus we are taking a simple approach to grants and funding. $250m support package for Australia’s arts and cultural sectors.
We know councils have spaces, theatres, cultural centres and support arts communities so this announcement is very relevant. On Thursday, the Australian Government announced: A $250m support package for Australia’s arts and cultural sectors, including $90m in government-backed concessional loans to fund new productions that will create jobs during the economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic was announced today. Thursday’s package includes a $75m grant program that will provide capital to help Australian production and events businesses put on new festivals, concerts, tours and other events as social distancing restrictions ease. Grants will range from $75,000 to $2m. |
